Relative too strong

RELATIVE STRENGTH, a Kris Kin colt purchased as a foal by Louise Parry in partnership with Mary Baker and prepared at Pantycoed for the 2006 Tattersalls October 3 sale, scored on his debut for Andrew Balding at Kempton last night.

The colt, bred by Tom Brennan's Holborn Trust, is the 3rd 2yo winner in 2007 to come out of Pantycoed. Considering this comes from just 5 runners, and that one of the other two is the disqualified Newmarket 'winner' Classic Descent, the Pantycoed-bred half-brother to Saiore, we feel that we have had a pretty good year with our runners from the crop of 2005.

Divinitus denied

Divinitus was denied the chance to become the latest black-type performer to come out of Pantycoed when an unlucky fourth in the Listed Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown today.

The brown colt, who had been virtually pulled up when badly hampered in the Gr 3 Killavullan Stakes at his previous start, again experienced no luck when narrowly beaten for third place after being left on his own in the centre of the track away from the rest of the field.

Win for Encircled

Encircled, the second foal of Pantycoed mare Ring of Esteem, joined her half-brother Montpellier as a dual winner after scoring easily at Windsor on Saturday.

Though not bred at Pantycoed, Encircled, a daughter of In The Wings, races in the colours of Louise Parry and Peter Steele-Mortimer, who acquired Ring of Esteem last year after buying her daughter as a yearling.

Ring of Esteem is currently in foal to Beat Hollow, like In The Wings and Montpellier's sire Montjeu a son of Sadler's Wells.

8 December 2005

Tattersalls Newmarket December Sale proved a very successful one for Pantycoed, highlighted by the 180,000 guineas sale on Monday 28 November of POLISH DESCENT, dam of SAOIRE. Carrying a three-quarter brother or sister to the Irish 1000 Guineas winner, she was bought by the BBA Ireland on behalf of Joe Joyce, owner of her classic-winning daughter.

Four days earlier, Polish Descent's 2005 Auction House colt had brought 65,000 guineas, bought by the same owner, who now has the nap hand of Classic winner, her dam and her half-brother. One lot before DIVINA MIA's 2005 MEDICEAN colt had initiated a very good selling spell for Pantycoed when going for 46,000 guineas, bought by Cathy Grassick of Brian Grassick Bloodstock on behalf of a pin-hooking partnership.

15 November 2005

SOLICITUDE (2yo filly Bertolini - Sibilant) became the 24th individual winner bred at Pantycoed when she ran away with a 7 furlong maiden at Southwell today.

She is the fourth foal, third runner and third 2yo winner out of her dam, a Selkirk mare from the family of multiple US Grade 1 winners Tinner's Way.

3rd August 2005

Yesterday's win by the Bold Edge gelding EDGE FUND brought up winner number 22 for Pantycoed, taking our winners to foals strike rate over the 70 % mark. Placed in six of his eight starts last year at two, EDGE FUND has recovered his form since being upped to a mile and ridden off the pace and may well add to this success now that he has managed to get his nose in front.

The recent highly-impressive Newbury maiden debut win of Cheveley Park Stud's homebred 2yo REGAL ROYALE was welcome at Pantycoed on two counts. He is from the family of our recent July Sales broodmare purchase SOCIALISE, and he is by MEDICEAN, sire of DIVINA MIA's 2005 colt who sells in our December Sales draft this year.

23rd May 2005
