Pantycoed Stud

A Brief History

The thoroughbred branch of the stud started, as a hobby breeding exercise, in 1977 with the purchase of OVERSEAS, a 1974 grey mare by Sea Hawk II out of Fresh Start (by Busted), owned in partnership with Louise Parry’s brother Peter Steele-Mortimer.  From nine foals to race Overseas bred seven winners of 27 races

In 1997 Louise and her late husband Morgan quit full-time farming and realised a long term objective to expand the thoroughbred stud into a commercial enterprise. Since Morgan’s death in 2003 Louise has been assisted by her elder son Andrew, who is now a partner in the stud and farm.

The stud has consistently achieved a high strike rate of winners to foals, the highlight to date being the 2005 Boylesports Irish 1000 Guineas success of Saoire.   At present the broodmare band numbers 10 (including boarders) of whom Ring of Esteem, owned in partnership with Louise's brother Peter Steele Mortimer and dam of 2011 Listed winner Tinshu, is the current doyen..
