A Brief History

The thoroughbred branch of the stud started, as a hobby breeding exercise, in 1977 with the purchase of OVERSEAS, a 1974 grey mare by Sea Hawk II out of Fresh Start (by Busted), owned in partnership with Louise Parry’s brother Peter Steele-Mortimer. Altogether Overseas’ progeny won 20 races on the flat and 7 races over jumps. From 9 foals to race she bred 7 winners.

In 1997 Louise and her late husband Morgan quit full-time farming and realised a long term objective to expand the thoroughbred stud into a commercial enterprise. Since Morgan’s death in 2003 Louise has been assisted by her elder son Andrew, who is now a partner in the stud business.

Over the past three years the broodmare band has doubled to 10 mares, owned either wholly by Pantycoed Stud or jointly in partnership with Peter Steele-Mortimer.
